Get ready to join us on a fun filled photography adventure. Letchworth State Park, renowned as the "Grand Canyon of the East" is one of the most scenically magnificent areas in the eastern U.S. The Genesee River roars through the gorge over three major waterfalls between cliffs--as high as 600 feet in some places--surrounded by lush forests. There are three large waterfalls within the park, and as many as fifty more waterfalls on the tributaries that flow into it. The three major waterfalls are referred to as Upper, Middle and Lower Falls – the Seneca believed that the Middle Falls were so wondrous that it made the sun stop at midday. The Fall foliage at this time of year is at its peak. It's as if the colors burst off the shale, limestone and sandstone peaks. This 3-DAY guided photography tour begins with a meet & greet with cameras in hand and finishes with a fond farewell. Come and make new friends as you discover the "Grand Canyon of the East". This tour will be lead by Rick Berk and Jessica Lempin. Rick and Jessica are looking forward to meeting you!

SATURDAY, OCT 21ST, 2017
We’ll start the tour off photographing the Upper Falls at sunrise. The Upper Falls of the Genesee River are one of three major cascades within the park. The falls are 40 feet high and spanned by the Portage High Bridge, a railroad bridge 234 feet above the falls. Either side of the river gorge are lined by foliage that explodes in red, yellow, and orange splashes at the peak of the fall season.
In the mid day, we’ll hike to the Lower Falls, the last of the three major cascades in Letchworth. While not as high as the Upper and Middle falls, it is set deeper in the gorge and has a more rugged look, perfect for photographing against the backdrop of fall foliage. There is a short hike to the Lower Falls, culminating with a beautiful view of the falls, which can be viewed from a stone bridge across the gorge.
We’ll complete the day with a sunset photo shoot along the Genesee River Gorge, where the sun glows against the shale cliffs and illuminates the fall foliage of upstate New York.
SUNDAY, OCT 22ND, 2017
For sunrise, we’ll visit Inspiration Point, with it’s grand vista of the Genesee River Gorge and the Middle and Upper Falls. This grand vista will present us with a bird’s eye view of the falls as well as fall foliage on either side of the gorge.
After breakfast, we’ll hike the Gorge Trail a bit to get closer to the foliage, and photograph at Wolf Creek. These views in the forest will let us get up close to the fall foliage and explore creative photographic techniques for getting the most out of our visit to the Grand Canyon of the East.
For sunset, we’ll return to the Upper and Middle Falls to capture the last of the day’s color in the sky as well as the foliage on the either side of the gorge. Bring a telephoto lens to capture detail shots of the foliage and the falls, as well as wide angles to capture the vistas below.
MONDAY, OCT 23RD, 2017
We’ll wrap up the workshop with a hike along the Hemlock Trail, which features Pine Pond, 100 year-old Hemlock trees, Red Pines, Deh-ga-ya-soh Creek. This will give us a chance to experience more fall foliage as well as bubbling creeks and even a few ravines.
We’ll then convene at the hotel for image sharing and critique before saying goodbye until next time!
