Your Acadia Nat'l Park Photo Tour Itinerary

MONDAY, JUNE 20th, 2016

Arrival & Check-in
Meet & Greet plus briefing discussion on the next day’s sessions.

TUESDAY, JUNE 21st, 2016

We’ll take the Park Loop Road to Acadia’s Boulder Beach, located within view of Otter Cliffs, presents a variety of photographic opportunities as we watch the sun rise over the Gulf of Maine. We’ll explore along the Ocean Path until mid-morning, when we’ll break for breakfast and lunch and have a chance to explore the town of Bar Harbor.

After lunch, we’ll head to Thunder Hole, where our senses will be overwhelmed with the beauty of the downeast Maine coast, the smell of the ocean air, and the sound of the waves crashing into Thunder Hole. The rocky Maine coast here provides excellent opportunities to capture dramatic images of waves crashing against the rocks with spectacular views to the north and south from Thunder Hole.

Otter Point will be our location for sunset, where the rocky coast picks up late afternoon color and the ocean waves crash against the rocks.

WEDNESDAY, JUNE 22nd, 2016

Bass Harbor Head Lighthouse, sitting high above the entrance to Blue Hill Harbor, will be our location for sunrise.  Depending on the tides, there are a variety of photographic opportunities available to you as you explore the area around the lighthouse.

After sunrise at the lighthouse, we’ll break for a bit so everyone can explore Bar Harbor and get a late morning brunch.  In the afternoon, we’ll take a drive over to a less visited but no less spectacular area of Acadia National Park; Schoodic Point.  Schoodic Point provides one of the best places to capture pounding surf and stunning views of Cadillac Mountain.

THURSDAY, JUNE 23rd, 2016

Little Hunters Beach is a secluded cobblestone beach on the southeast side of Mount Desert Island, nestled in a small cove. As we photograph the sunrise, the waves washing over the cobblestones creates a soothing rattle. The cobblestones themselves provide plenty of photographic interest. We’ll explore along this section of the coast from sunrise until midmorning.

For lunch, we’ll convene as a group and have a critique session while we eat. Then we’ll head to Cobblestone Bridge to photograph away from the coast for a bit. The stone bridges along the carriage roads are one of Acadia’s icons. We’ll photograph Cobblestone Bridge as it crosses Jordan Stream. From there, we’ll head to Jordan Pond to photograph the sunset over the Bubbles, the iconic rounded peaks at the north end of Jordan Pond.

FRIDAY, JUNE 24th, 2016

Cadillac Mountain is the highest point on on the North Atlantic seaboard, and at certain times during the year is the first place in the United States to see the sunrise. We’ll finish the workshop by photographing the sunrise from this viewpoint, looking down on Frenchman Bay below.
